노동조합 10대 각급대표자 선출을 앞두고 민주동지회에서는 지난 9월 21일 임시총회를 통해 중앙후보로 조태욱동지를 선출하였다. 조후보는 이 날 그 동안 KT자본과의 끊임없는 투쟁 속에 고민해 온 내용들을 정리한 후 ‘고용안정’, ‘임금인상’ 두 가지 쟁취를 위한 결의를 밝혔다. ‘KT의 정년은 58세다’, 너무도 명확한 사실임을 강조하며 정년사수투쟁을 제안하였다. 이어 조후보는 한 관리자가 보내 준 전국 CP인력(부진) 인력 퇴출유도 지침서를 공개하며 KT내에서 특히 차별받고 고용불안에 시달리고 있는 조합원들과 함께 하는 투쟁을 약속하였다. 수석후보로는 강북의 이재숙(을지지점) 동지가 함께 뛰는 것으로 결정되었다.
임시총회 의결사항에 따라 이후 각 지역별 총회가 개최되어 후보들이 속속 출마를 결의하고 있다. 10월 7일(화) 성공회대에서 있었던 서부총회에서 이남구(구로지사)동지가 서부지방본부위원장 후보 출마결의를 밝히는 것을 시작으로 8일(수) 강북의 이기국(신내지점), 10일(금) 전남의 서기봉(영암지점), 전북의 원병희(팔복지점)동지들이 이어서 출마를 선언했다.
임금도 몇 년째 동결 내지는 삭감되어 생활의 어려움이 더해 가고 있다.
해외투기자본의 배를 채워주기 위해 사람을 자르고 임금을 삭감하는 것으로 연명하는 경영진들을 옹호하며 저들의 안위만 채워가고 있다.
이번 선거에서 회사는 2010년 1월 시행을 앞둔 복수노조시대를 앞두고 지난 그 어느 선거보다 더 악랄하게 통제하고 탄압할 수 있을 것이다. 이에 반해 많은 조합원들이 통합개표 등 회사의 감시와 통제를 벗어날 수 있는 제도개선을 원하고 있다. 그렇지만 회사나 노조가 두려움 속에서 수용하지 못할 것으로 보인다. 그러나 민주동지회 후보들을 중심으로 저항하고 현장의 조합원들이 용기를 내 회사의 거대한 힘에 맞설 수 있다면 노조의 민주화가 실현될 수 있을 것이다.
